Reviews

"My Fraulini is all North American – poplar, persimmon, oak, spruce and maple. It has a loud, punchy tone, well-balanced top-to bottom. It loves fingerpicks all the way up the neck and sounds like some of the guitars on those old 78 rpm discs. Excellent for Frank Hutchison, and also old-time."
Mike Seeger
"Many luthiers pride themselves upon guitars with distinctive tone or volume. Where they miss the mark is usually being bent on an ideal tone, for that guitarist who seeks the same. And 12-strings, quite aptly, double the trouble. What makes the Faulini instrument so formidable is the range of tone, made for that artist that demands dynamics equal to his or her own intrepid mastery on whatever level, that ages along at the same or even better pace in keeping up with the evolution of that musician's distinctive style.

"What the hell does that mean?....It means choosing a Fraulini is a formidable task, somehow made easy. My Angelina has every shade of a Stella auditorium or better, vibrates with a gut-pleasing throb, and up the neck barks that punchy, throaty dry slap as good as an old Galiano, fresh out of the box. It waits to bear any costume or role you give it. And every time I see and hear a Fraulini in action, I understand why that musician is making love to the instrument. I drive; it goes to a magical place and definitely another time, for us to get lost in the music."
Pat Conte
"It sounds more like a Stella than a Stella!"
Paul Geremia
"Since obtaining the Fraulini I haven't played any other acoustic guitar at my gigs. The Fraulini sounds and plays better than any other guitar I own. It has real character. It sings. This is an exceptionally well made instrument. This is a guitar that couldn't exist if the maker hadn't been obsessed with the (forgotten) art of making great acoustic guitars. It should not be confused with many modern takes on vintage guitars, that look nice but never sound right. The only guitars I could even compare it to sound wise would be rare 1920's Stellas that sell for more money than most people could ever spend on an instrument. Perfect action, perfect tone and every note has its own character. There is little reason to own another guitar when you have one of these hanging around."

"Todd's guitars are magic."
Alvin Youngblood Hart
"I had been keeping my eye out for a 12-string for some time, and after I played a Fraulini twelve-string, I stopped looking. Todd's guitars sound fantastic for the prewar blues styles. This guy saved me a fortune! I'll never need another twelve-string!"
Ari Eisinger
"I wasn't looking for a 9-string guitar when Todd sent me out his beautiful conversion to show at the Port Townsend Country Blues Workshop. After playing it for a week, though, I wasn't willing to part with it. Something about its sound inspires new ideas, and that's a quality much to be valued in an instrument.
"I think Todd has a particular sound in his head that he is striving for in his instruments, whether they are his own creations, conversions like the one I got, or restorations. This "aural vision" of his, taken along with his ability to achieve it via study, craftsmanship, willingness to experiment, and a natural gift honed by experience, make his work something very special."
John Miller
"Todd builds a mean guitar. I don't think I've ever played one that I didn't want to own, and consider myself lucky to have a 12-string that he built and a parlor that he restored. Something about the old music speaks to me in ways that I'll probably never totally understand, and I'm always looking for ways of extending the usefulness of these older forms and styles. Todd builds guitars from that same place, and playing his instruments immediately puts me more in touch with what I want to do - making me dig a little deeper. He's got a deep sense of commitment to his art and it totally comes through in the finished product - a hand-made, one of a kind instrument with a voice that's much, much older."
Frank Basile
"Fraulini guitars take you back to a time when craftsmanship was King. Todd's attention to detail and nuance is that of an artisan and each instrument has a voice of its own, yet distinctly Fraulini.

"Working with Todd was a pleasure from the start. He was accommodating to certain things I look for in a guitar that you can't get 'off the rack' and even from some custom builders. I have a Angelina 12 that is clear and balanced and has the power and rumble of a freight train. When it comes to building his guitars, Todd cannot be accused of living in the past. I say, the past lives in Todd."
